How we keep the numbers honest

A paycheck calculator is only as good as its rates. This page explains how every figure on the site is sourced, verified, and kept up to date.

Accuracy

Primary sources only

Every rate, threshold, deduction and cap on this site is traced to a primary source: the Oregon Department of Revenue’s withholding publications, IRS Circular E and revenue procedures, the Social Security Administration’s wage base announcement, Oregon Employment Department payroll tax guidance, and the Metro and Multnomah County ordinances for local taxes. We do not copy figures from secondary calculator sites — those propagate errors.

One data file, one engine

All figures live in a single data file (src/data/or-2026.json) consumed by one calculation engine (src/lib/tax/engine.ts). No rate is typed into a page by hand. When a figure changes, it is changed once, in the data file, and the entire site recalculates. This prevents the page-to-page inconsistency that plagues calculator sites.

Verification date

Every figure is verified against its primary source on 2026-08-05. The verification date is shown on each guide, and the data file records the same date. When new guidance is published — new rates, a new wage base, a rate change — the site is updated and the verification date advances.

Corrections

When an error is found, it is corrected in the data file or page, and the correction is noted. Readers who spot an error are encouraged to report it through the contact page with their source; every report is checked against a primary source before any change is made. Substantive corrections are logged on the 2026 tax updates page.

Independence

This site is an independent editorial project. It receives no compensation from any state agency, local government, payroll company, or tax software vendor, and no outside party reviews content before publication. The inclusion of a source link never implies endorsement.

Estimates, not advice

The site documents what Oregon withholding formulas produce, not what any individual should do. Guides are educational, and the calculators model the standard withholding formula. They are not a substitute for professional tax advice. See the disclaimer for the full terms.
